Polarization Study

چکیده

Polarization effects can be confusing — even counter intuitive if you have the wrong intuition. To add to the confusion, the convention to define “left” and “right” circular polarization is . . . at the whim of your instructor. An atomic physicist will describe polarization of light with respect to a fixed “z-axis” of reference, independent of the k-vector of the light. This definition becomes somewhat of a challenge when that axis is orthogonal or opposite to the direction of propagation of light. In Optics, the polarization is defined with respect to the k-vector. It is obviously important to know which definition to use when discussing interaction of radiation and matter. Polarization can be “manipulated” in the laboratory by reflection off a metallic or dielectric interfaces, and transmission through birefringent materials1 and through media with circular dichroism2. Polarization is manipulated on paper with Jones or Mueller matrices. See Appendix ?? for a short summary of Jones matrices. A basic optics text such as Hecht’s [1] is sufficient to get you started. Other good sources include Refs. [2] and [3].

Towards Measurement of Polarization Properties of Skin using the Ellipsometry Technique

Introduction: The human skin is an active medium from the optical point of view. Therefore, the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques employing light are increasing. Current optical techniques are based on the measurement of the intensity of reflected absorbed or backscattered light from or within skin. Studies have shown that biological tissues, and in particular skin, demonstrate polarization...

Polarization constant $mathcal{K}(n,X)=1$ for entire functions of exponential type

In this paper we will prove that if $L$ is a continuous symmetric n-linear form on a Hilbert space and $widehat{L}$ is the associated continuous n-homogeneous polynomial, then $||L||=||widehat{L}||$. For the proof we are using a classical generalized  inequality due to S. Bernstein for entire functions of exponential type. Furthermore we study the case that if X is a Banach space then we have t...

Proper integration time of polarization signals of internetwork regions using Sunrise/IMaX data

Distribution of magnetic fields in the quiet-Sun internetwork areas has been affected by weak polarization (in particular Stokes Q and U) signals. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the weak polarization signals, several approaches, including temporal integrations, have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we aim to investigate a proper temporal-integration time with which...

Analysis of Electric Field and Polarization of SF6 Circuit Breaker to Approach a Suitable Structure

Abstract: The application of electric field theory to widely different aspects of electrical insulation has led to more understanding the phenomena. Electric fields may be considered as the main reason for insulation failure. The purpose of this paper is to modify importance of analyzing electric field in insulation design. The SF6 circuit breaker is chosen as case study that encounters cri...

A Corrosion Study of Grain-Refined 304L Stainless Steels Produced by the Martensitic Process

AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel with different grain sizes of 0.5 -12 μm was obtained through the martensitic process. Corrosion behavior of different samples was investigated in a 0.5M HCl solution using open circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. Also, the correlation between the grain size and pitting corrosion resistance was as...
